Bayt Salloum

Bayt Salloum stands out in the Al Balad district for its massive, intricately carved wooden rawasheen that project far over the narrow street. Built in the late nineteenth century, this coral stone house served as the residence of the wealthy merchant family, the Salloums. The windows allowed air to circulate while keeping the interior private from onlookers below. One merchant, Mohammed Salloum, once hosted high-ranking officials here, filling the house with imported spices and fabrics that defined the trade wealth of old Jeddah.
