Bab Makkah

Bab Makkah stands as a massive stone gate with dual pointed arches, marking the western entry point for travelers arriving from the holy city. Built into the historic defensive wall that once circled Jeddah, it served as the primary threshold for pilgrims moving between the harbor and the interior. When the city walls were demolished in nineteen forty-seven, this gate remained as a solitary monument. Traders once crowded the arched passages, hauling spices and textiles while soldiers guarded the city's perimeter from this vantage.
