Casa do Deán

The Casa do Dean features a sharp, singular corner balcony that hangs precariously over the Rua do Vilar, supported by a heavy stone bracket. This structure served as the official residence for the Dean of the Santiago Cathedral. During the seventeenth century, the Dean used this vantage point to observe pilgrims arriving at the cathedral square. He kept a direct view of the crowds while staying within the comfort of his private quarters. It remains the most prominent secular stone residence in this quarter.
