Praza da Quintana de Vivos

other

The Praza da Quintana splits into two levels separated by a long, wide stone staircase. The upper square, known as Quintana de Vivos, sits at the feet of the cathedral’s Holy Door, while the lower level, Quintana de Mortos, served as a cemetery until the end of the eighteenth century. A local story claims that at night, the souls of the departed climb those granite stairs to rejoin the living. The stone wall keeps the rhythm of the city’s past and present.
