Igrexa de Santa María Salomé

The Igrexa de Santa María Salomé sits on the Rua Nova with a stone porch that shelters its entrance from the constant rain of Santiago de Compostela. Built in the twelfth century, it is the only church in the city dedicated to the mother of the apostles James and John. In seventeen twenty-three, master builder Jose Varela added the current bell tower. He supposedly modeled it after the famous towers of the cathedral, creating a miniature stone silhouette that mimics the skyline’s most prominent feature.
