San Jeronimo College

other

The Colegio de San Jeronimo features a heavy, stone facade salvaged from a fifteenth-century hospital that once stood near the cathedral. Its current structure dates to the seventeenth century, serving as a residence for students who lacked the money to pay for their education. Archbishop Alonso de Fonseca founded it to support poor scholars who were required to maintain a specific standard of discipline while they studied. Today, the building serves as the official residence for the rector of the University of Santiago de Compostela.
