The Porta do Camiño features a modern stone archway that marks the traditional entrance for pilgrims arriving in Santiago de Compostela via the French Way. This structure replaced the original medieval gate that once sat within the city walls, which were dismantled in the nineteenth century to allow for urban expansion. In twelve fifty-six, Queen Violante of Aragon famously passed through these walls to make her offering at the cathedral, bringing with her a retinue that redefined the city's royal standing.
