Alpargatería

The smell of jute and natural esparto grass defines the air around the Alpargatería. Inside, rows of handmade espadrilles hang from wooden racks, their soles braided from the tough Mediterranean fibers that once kept local fishermen and farmers steady on rocky ground. While modern footwear turned toward rubber and plastic, this shop maintained the traditional technique of sewing the soles by hand. It remains one of the few places where the rhythmic sound of a needle piercing thick cord still dictates the workday.
