Ibiza Harbour

The harbor at Ibiza Town is defined by a massive, fortified stone wall that shields the Dalt Vila from the sea. Centuries ago, these defenses were built to keep out North African pirates who frequently raided the Mediterranean coast. When the architect Giovanni Battista Calvi arrived in the mid-sixteenth century, he transformed the medieval ruins into a bastion that could withstand cannon fire. The harbor still holds the echo of those ships, now replaced by modern vessels docking against the ancient limestone.
