Plaça de Vila

The Plaça de Vila sits behind the heavy stone walls of Dalt Vila, marked by a massive, vaulted gateway that leads into a narrow, stone-paved square. While the rest of Ibiza hums with modern tourists, this plaza served as the primary gathering point for the island’s elite families for centuries. In fifteen eighty-five, engineer Giovanni Battista Calvi designed these fortifications to withstand pirate raids. Residents retreated here when ships appeared on the horizon, leaving the lower town to face the flames alone.
