Baluarte de Santa Lucía

The Baluarte de Santa Lucía holds the highest point of the Renaissance walls surrounding Dalt Vila. It features a sharp, angular stone face that juts out over the harbor, designed in the sixteenth century by the Italian engineer Giovanni Battista Calvi. During the great pirate raids, guards kept a constant watch from this high bastion for ships approaching from the Mediterranean. A massive iron anchor now rests on the ramparts, a relic of the era when this stone platform kept the city safe.
