Baluarte de San Pedro

The Baluarte de San Pedro stands out for its massive, sloping stone walls that jut out toward the harbor, forming a sharp point of the Renaissance defenses. It remains the most imposing bastion of the Dalt Vila fortifications. In fifteen eighty-five, the Italian engineer Giovan Giacomo Paleari Fratino designed this section to withstand heavy artillery fire. When a worker dropped a heavy stone during construction, it crushed a local soldier, a moment recorded in the city archives as a grim accident of its creation.
