Emmeline Pankhurst Statue

The bronze figure of Emmeline Pankhurst stands with one arm outstretched, frozen in the middle of a speech. She rests on a circular stone plinth in St. Peter's Square, positioned near the site of the Peterloo Massacre. Sculptor Hazel Reeves cast her in nineteen eighteen, the same year some women gained the right to vote. Pankhurst often returned to this city to rally supporters, frequently drawing thousands to nearby public halls until the police broke up the crowds.
