People's History Museum

The People’s History Museum occupies a former hydraulic pumping station, recognizable by its tall, narrow brick facade and the heavy industrial pipes still running along the exterior walls. It holds the national collection of labor movement history in Britain. In the late eighties, when organizers moved these banners and archives from London to Manchester, they arrived in dozens of unmarked crates. Staff members spent months unrolling rare textile banners on the floor of the gallery, discovering artifacts that had been hidden away for decades.
