Science and Industry Museum

The Science and Industry Museum occupies the shell of the Liverpool Road Station, recognizable by the sweeping, curved brick facade of the eighteen-thirtieth railway warehouse. This site served as the terminus for the world’s first intercity passenger railway. When the station opened, a locomotive named the Rocket pulled the inaugural train into this yard. The rail lines cut through the city, sparking an industrial boom that transformed Manchester into the global center of textile manufacturing and steam-powered production.
