MR THOMAS'S CHOP HOUSE

The facade of Mr Thomas’s Chop House wears a distinctive skin of decorative terracotta tiling, colored in deep creams and browns. Established in eighteen sixty-seven by Thomas Studd, the restaurant occupies a narrow sliver of land that survived Victorian redevelopment schemes by inches. Inside, the original timber paneling and brass fixtures remain from an era when Manchester was the engine room of the industrial world. It serves as a rare holdout of the city’s nineteenth-century dining culture amidst modern steel and glass.
