Peterloo Massacre Monument

The Peterloo Massacre Monument consists of a circular stone platform inscribed with the names of the eighteen people killed here on August sixteenth, eighteen nineteen. They gathered in Saint Peter’s Field to demand parliamentary representation, but local magistrates ordered a cavalry charge into the crowd. Panic and trampling followed, and the field became the site of a brutal confrontation between state forces and peaceful reformers. The memorial remains at the exact location where those protesters once stood waiting for change.
