Afflecks occupies a multi-story building marked by an eclectic, hand-painted exterior that changes with the seasons. It began in nineteen eighty-two as Affleck and Brown’s, a former department store that Elaine Walsh turned into an indoor market for independent traders. While the department store once sold linens to the Victorian public, Walsh created a space for the punk and alternative scenes. Musicians like Morrissey shopped here for vintage gear, and the stalls grew into a permanent home for local subcultures.
