The Old Wellington is a timber-framed building covered in black and white lath and plaster, standing out against the brick and stone of the modern city center. Built around fifteen fifty-two, it served as a cloth merchant's house before becoming a popular tavern. When the building sat in the way of city redevelopment in the nineteen nineties, workers took the entire structure apart, moved it three hundred feet, and reassembled it on higher ground to clear the way for a shopping center.
