The Judge’s Lodging features a grand stone facade topped by a distinctively heavy, triangular pediment that dominates Lendal Hill. This eighteenth-century townhouse served as the official residence for visiting judges during the York Assizes. In seventeen twenty-seven, Dr. Clifton Wintringham purchased the property and transformed it into a status symbol for the local elite. Behind those tall sash windows, judges once prepared their court cases while staying in rooms originally designed to showcase the refined taste of a wealthy physician.
