Sunflower Public House

The Sunflower Public House stands out on the corner of Union Street and Kent Street because of the tall, black security cage still bolted to the front of the building. This iron barrier dates back to the nineteen eighties when the threat of violence meant pubs needed reinforced doors to control access. While most businesses removed these cages after the peace process, the owners kept this one as a reminder of the city's past and the reality of life in Belfast during that era.
