The Northern Whig

The Northern Whig building features a facade of carved sandstone heads and intricate floral motifs that distinguish it from the plain brick surrounding it. It once served as the headquarters and printing house for a newspaper of the same name, a publication that championed liberal politics throughout the nineteenth century. The presses hummed in the basement, turning out broadsheets while journalists worked in the upper rooms. Today, the presses are gone, replaced by the clatter of a modern bar and restaurant.
