The Cleaver House on Donegall Square North displays a facade of light-colored Scrabo sandstone that separates it from the darker red brick of its neighbors. Built in eighteen ninety-five for the linen merchant John Cleaver, it served as a high-end warehouse and showroom for the Irish linen trade. The carvings around the upper windows depict symbols of the flax plant, reflecting the source of the wealth that paid for the masonry. Today, the ground floor serves as a modern bank branch.
