The Jailhouse sits on the corner of Joy Street, identifiable by the dark stone facade and the thick, barred windows that still cling to the exterior. It began as a Victorian prison for women in the mid nineteenth century. Back then, the cells housed those arrested for minor offenses like theft or public disorder. A century later, the iron gates opened to a different crowd, as the building shifted into a restaurant that kept the original stone walls and heavy cell doors intact.
