Cornelia White House

The Cornelia White House wears a coat of railroad ties. These heavy timber beams, scavenged from the Southern Pacific Railroad, give the exterior a rugged, horizontal texture unlike any other adobe in Palm Springs. Cornelia White built this home in nineteen fourteen using those salvaged ties and mud bricks from her own property. She lived here with her sister, but the house served as a hub for the early community, doubling as a social center where visitors gathered around her piano to hear the latest news.
