It began as a private residence in nineteen twenty-four for William Mead, a Los Angeles real estate developer who sought a retreat from the city. The house centers on a natural waterfall that tumbles down the cliffside and flows through the property grounds. Albert Einstein lived here for several weeks in nineteen thirty-one, spending his mornings working on calculations at a stone table outside.
