McCallum-Adobe Museum

The McCallum Adobe stands apart from the surrounding desert architecture with its thick, uneven mud-plastered walls and heavy timber beams. Built in eighteen eighty-four by John Guthrie McCallum, this humble structure served as the family home when they arrived to establish a massive agricultural empire in the Coachella Valley. During the great drought of eighteen ninety-four, the crops failed and the family fortunes collapsed. John McCallum died bankrupt in his adobe, leaving behind the town's oldest building and a vanished dream of farmland.
