Palm Springs Art Museum

The Palm Springs Art Museum anchors the base of the San Jacinto Mountains, recognizable by the sweeping, curved concrete roofline that mimics the desert slopes. In nineteen seventy-four, architect E. Stewart Williams designed the structure to sit low against the rock face, effectively burying a portion of the galleries into the mountainside. Before this building existed, the museum operated out of a modest bungalow. When architect William Holden donated his services, the institution finally found a permanent home for its massive mid-century collection.
