The twenty-six foot tall stainless steel and aluminum sculpture of Marilyn Monroe stands with her skirt billowing upward in the air. Artist Seward Johnson based the pose on the famous scene from the nineteen fifty-five film, The Seven Year Itch. Since arriving in Palm Springs, the statue has moved between downtown locations before settling into its current spot. Maintenance crews periodically polish the metal surface to keep the figure bright against the desert sky.
