Welwood Murray Memorial Library

The Welwood Murray Memorial Library wears a distinctive Spanish Colonial Revival style, marked by its thick white stucco walls and a series of arched entryways facing the street. Welwood Murray, a pioneer who arrived in Palm Springs in the eighteen eighties, originally envisioned a quiet space for visitors to read. After his death, his son George funded this building to honor him. It served as the town’s first public library, housing a collection of books once kept in a humble tent.
