Youngblood Coleman Park

park garden

Youngblood Coleman Park covers the hilly terrain of the Indian Basin neighborhood with its bright blue and yellow athletic courts. The park sits on land reclaimed from the industrial tideflats of the San Francisco Bay. It takes its name from Youngblood Coleman, a local community activist who pushed for years to turn this former dumping ground into a space for recreation. Local families filled the ball fields here long before the city finished the formal landscaping and playground structures that occupy the space today.
