Minnesota Orchestra

The Minnesota Orchestra stands apart with its shimmering, faceted glass exterior, an immense wall of transparent panels that exposes the lobby to the street. Inside this building, the acoustic design prioritizes a precise, clean sound rather than a boomy, resonant echo. In nineteen seventy-four, the orchestra moved here from the old Northrop Auditorium, a place where the sound frequently vanished into the vast ceiling. Musicians now perform in a room shaped like a shoebox, a configuration intended to bounce every note directly toward the audience.
