The Kayne Avenue yard sits as a wide, gravel-filled gap in the middle of Nashville’s Gulch neighborhood. Steel tracks fan out across the basin, splitting the industrial landscape into a series of parallel lines. For decades, this was the primary hub for the Nashville, Chattanooga and Saint Louis Railway. Engineers moved steam engines through these sidings to sort cargo, while crews fueled the heavy locomotives at the adjacent roundhouse.
