Cheer Up Charlies features a jagged, mismatched fence constructed from repurposed pallets and discarded wood. It sits on Red River Street as a venue defined by its open-air stage and its history as a sanctuary for the queer community in Austin. In two thousand eleven, when the bar faced eviction from its original East Austin location, hundreds of patrons formed a human chain to move their equipment by hand to this current site. The venue remains a local touchstone for independent music and queer advocacy.
