The Waller Creek Boathouse sits right where the creek meets Lady Bird Lake, identifiable by its sharp, angular canopy that tilts toward the water. It opened in two thousand thirteen as a permanent home for the Austin Rowing Club. Before this, the club kept its boats in metal shipping containers parked in the dirt. John FitzGerald, who championed the project, once described the effort as finally giving the city’s rowing community a front door that actually faces the river.
