The Paramount Theatre

The Paramount Theatre holds a jagged, white terra cotta facade that rises above Congress Avenue. Opened in nineteen fifteen as the Majestic, it functioned as a premier vaudeville house for traveling performers. Harry Houdini escaped from its stage, and silent film stars projected their images onto the screen while audiences sat in the dark. The theatre survived a massive fire in nineteen twenty-four that gutted the interior, only to reopen a year later with a new name and a renewed purpose.
