The iron gate at the entrance to Sir Swante Palm Neighborhood Park features a metal silhouette of a man holding a book. Swante Palm arrived in Texas from Sweden in eighteen forty-four and eventually amassed one of the largest private libraries in the state. He donated his twelve thousand volumes to the University of Texas, forming the core of its research collection. Today, the park keeps his memory alive on the edge of the historic Swedish neighborhood where he once lived and worked.
