Alamo Cenotaph Monument

The Alamo Cenotaph rises sixty feet into the air as a massive, pale block of Georgia marble. Sculptor Pompeo Coppini designed this monument to honor the defenders who died during the eighteen thirty-six battle. His carvings wrap around the stone, depicting the figures who held the mission against the Mexican army. While the nearby church holds the history of the siege, this cenotaph holds the names of the men who fell there, etched directly into the cold, white face of the stone.
