The Sartor House sits as a limestone remnant of the original San Antonio Arsenal grounds. Built in the late eighteen seventies, this structure served as the residence for the arsenal’s ordnance sergeant, the man responsible for the storage of gunpowder and weapons. While the surrounding military complex grew with brick warehouses and machine shops, this house remained a modest, domestic footprint. It survived the decommissioning of the site and the subsequent development of the area into a residential and retail complex.
