Spanish Governor's Palace

The Spanish Governor's Palace stands out with its thick, white limestone walls and a heavy, carved wooden door set deep into the facade. Above that door, a stone keystone displays the double-headed eagle of the Habsburg coat of arms. Built in the early eighteenth century, the building served as the official residence and workplace for the captains of the Presidio San Antonio de Bexar. It was the center of Spanish government in Texas for decades before anyone claimed independence for the territory.
