Three modest, honey-colored limestone structures sit huddled together behind a fence on South Laredo Street. This compound was the home of Jose Antonio Navarro, a man who signed the Texas Declaration of Independence and served in the congresses of both the Republic of Texas and the state. While the rest of downtown San Antonio modernized, these thick walls remained as they were when Navarro lived here during the nineteenth century, holding his desk, his kitchen, and his personal correspondence inside.
