Centro de Artes Gallery

The Centro de Artes gallery occupies a stone building with a heavy, arched entrance on the western edge of Plaza de Armas. This site served as the city market house for decades, but in the eighteen eighties, it functioned as the county courthouse. It hosted the final trial of the outlaw Gregorio Cortez. After a long, complicated legal battle, a jury cleared him of murder charges in this courtroom. The city renovated the structure in two thousand twelve to house rotating exhibits of Latino art.
