Alexander and Blanche Joske House

historic

The Alexander and Blanche Joske House sits behind a limestone wall on South Alamo Street, marked by the distinct, oversized arched windows and a heavy, textured stone facade typical of the Richardsonian Romanesque style. Alexander Joske, son of the department store founder, built this mansion in eighteen ninety-six to showcase his family's rising status in San Antonio. He ordered the rare, reddish sandstone from across the state, ensuring his home appeared far more substantial than the surrounding wooden houses in the neighborhood.
