Robert H.H. Hugman Statue

A bronze figure sits perched on a stone bench, wearing a thin mustache and clutching a camera. This is Robert Hugman, the architect who imagined the San Antonio River Walk. In the nineteen twenties, city officials viewed the river as a dangerous flood risk and proposed paving it over to create a storm drain. Hugman drew up plans for a series of walkways, bridges, and shops to transform the waterway into a public space, but the city rejected his ideas for over a decade.
