El Alamein Fountain

historic

The El Alamein Fountain features a spherical spray of water that resembles a dandelion head. Designed by Robert Woodward in nineteen sixty-one, the fountain commemorates the Australian Imperial Force soldiers who fought in the two battles of El Alamein during the second world war. Thousands of brass nozzles are welded together to create the distinctive globe shape. The memorial sits on a tripod base, and the water flows outward to create a delicate, shifting dome of spray that catches the morning light.
