The Chambers occupies the corner of Lake and Spence Streets, defined by its three-story red brick facade and the heavy, arched windows along the ground floor. It opened in nineteen twenty-six as the new headquarters for the Cairns branch of the Bank of New South Wales. The bank needed a building that broadcast stability to the regional sugar and mining industries. It eventually served other commercial tenants for decades before becoming a restaurant and bar, leaving the banking vault doors still embedded inside.
