The Cairns Wharf Complex features a sequence of sturdy, white-painted timber sheds stretching along the waterfront, topped by distinctive corrugated iron roofs. Built in the early twentieth century, these structures served as the vital heartbeat of the region’s sugar and agricultural trade, linking the inland fields to ships bound for overseas markets. In nineteen thirty-five, a massive cyclone tore through the coast, but these sheds remained standing while much of the town suffered extensive damage, proving their rugged construction for harsh tropical conditions.
