museum

The Kokoda Hall in Cairns stands out for its plain, corrugated iron exterior, painted a modest, sun-faded green. This building serves as the home of the Cairns and District Buffalo Club, but it doubles as an informal, deeply personal museum for the veterans of the Kokoda Track campaign. Inside, the walls are covered in handwritten notes and maps from soldiers who fought in the New Guinea jungles. One display case holds a battered canteen that once belonged to a nineteen-year-old private from Cairns.
