The Crown Hotel

The Crown Hotel features a distinctive, rounded corner balcony that follows the curve of the street intersection. Built in nineteen twenty-six, this hotel replaced an earlier timber structure that burned to the ground during a period when Cairns was rapidly expanding as a tropical port. The current brick design intended to offer travelers a more fireproof and permanent residence. Its wide verandas served as a breezy social hub for sailors and local workers escaping the humid heat of the Queensland afternoons.
