Bulmba-ja arts centre

The Bulmba-ja Arts Centre is distinguished by the corrugated iron awnings and the bright, layered facade facing Abbott Street. This building began as the Customs House in the nineteen twenties before serving as a state government office. In nineteen ninety-four, it transformed into a dedicated arts space for Indigenous artists from across Queensland. When the conversion happened, workers uncovered original hardwood floors and structural supports that had been hidden for decades, exposing the building's rougher, industrial beginnings underneath the office drywall.
